What is Livagen?
Livagen is a four-amino-acid peptide, Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala. It comes out of Vladimir Khavinson’s bioregulator program at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, which proposed that very short peptides can enter the cell nucleus and change gene activity in a particular tissue.
It’s the bioregulator the institute links to liver tissue. It isn’t an approved medicine anywhere and is sold for lab research only.
What studies report about Livagen
Khavinson and colleagues reported that Livagen loosened tightly packed chromatin in lymphocytes taken from older people, which they read as reactivating genes that had gone quiet with age.
Other papers from the same group looked at its effect on enzymes in the gut and liver of aging rats. Independent replication is limited.
The full list of Livagen papers is on PubMed, and most abstracts are free to read.
The biology behind Livagen
Khavinson’s group proposes that short peptides like this one pass into the nucleus, bind specific DNA sequences or histone proteins and change how tightly chromatin is packed around certain genes. That would let a tissue-matched peptide turn up the genes that tissue needs.
Most of that evidence comes from cell cultures and aging animals studied by the same institute. Independent labs haven’t confirmed much of it yet, which is worth keeping in mind when you design controls.

Livagen 20mg reconstitution and storage
With 20mg in the vial, common water volumes work out like this:
- 1mL of water: 20mg per mL
- 2mL of water: 10mg per mL
- 3mL of water: 6.67mg per mL
Let the vial warm to room temperature first. Run the water slowly down the side of the glass, then swirl or roll it until the powder is gone. Don’t shake it; foam is a sign of damaged peptide.
Dry vials last longest frozen at -20°C. Reconstituted solution goes in the fridge and is best used within four weeks or so.
Planning a study with Livagen 20mg
Map out the doses per group, multiply by the number of days, and add a margin. It’s cheaper to order one extra vial at the start than to restart a study.
Livagen vs related compounds
In short, Livagen is the tetrapeptide Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala, linked to liver tissue. Here’s how its neighbors differ:
- Pinealon is the tripeptide Glu-Asp-Arg, linked by its developers to brain tissue
- Cardiogen is the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg, linked to heart and blood vessel tissue
- Chonluten is a Khavinson tripeptide linked to bronchial and stomach tissue
- Vilon is the Khavinson dipeptide Lys-Glu, linked to immune tissue
- Epithalon is the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, studied for telomerase activity
These short peptides all come from Vladimir Khavinson’s St. Petersburg institute, and each is linked by its developers to one tissue. All of them are on our Khavinson bioregulators page.
