About IGF-1 LR3
IGF-1 LR3 is an 83-amino-acid analog of IGF-1 with an arginine swap at position 3 and a 13-amino-acid extension. Those changes stop it binding IGF binding proteins, so it stays active much longer.
It’s widely used in cell culture media.
What studies report about IGF-1 LR3
It was developed for cell culture in the 1990s.
In cell culture it’s several times more potent than IGF-1.
The full list of IGF-1 LR3 papers is on PubMed, and most abstracts are free to read.
How IGF-1 LR3 works
IGF-1 is the hormone that carries out much of growth hormone’s effect on cells. Most of it in the body is bound by IGF binding proteins, which hold it inactive.
LR3 has an arginine in place of glutamate at position 3 plus a 13-residue extension. Binding proteins barely recognize it, so it stays free and active far longer. That’s why it’s the standard IGF-1 in cell culture media.

Reconstituting IGF-1 LR3 100mcg
The concentration is the 100mcg in the vial divided by the water you add:
- 1mL of water: 100mcg per mL
- 2mL of water: 50mcg per mL
Use sterile bacteriostatic water and add it slowly, aiming at the glass instead of the powder. A gentle swirl is all it needs.
Store sealed vials in the freezer. Once you’ve added water, keep the vial at 2 to 8°C and plan to finish it within roughly a month.
Planning a study with IGF-1 LR3 100mcg
Count the total milligrams across every group and time point, and round up. Running out halfway and switching lots adds a variable you didn’t plan for.

IGF-1 LR3 compared with similar peptides
IGF-1 LR3 is an 83-amino-acid IGF-1 analog that avoids binding proteins and lasts for hours. The compounds it’s usually weighed against:
- MGF is the E-domain peptide from the muscle-specific IGF-1 splice variant
- PEG-MGF is MGF with a PEG chain added so it lasts much longer
- ACE-031 is a decoy activin receptor that soaks up myostatin
- Follistatin-344 binds myostatin and activin directly
Muscle research uses two routes: the IGF-1 side (IGF-1 LR3 and the MGF peptides) and the myostatin side (ACE-031 and follistatin). All of them are on our muscle peptides page.
Related muscle peptides
- MGF 5mg (Mechano Growth Factor), an IGF-1 splice variant peptide
- PEG-MGF 5mg, a pegylated MGF
- ACE-031 1mg, a soluble activin receptor fusion protein
- Follistatin-344 1mg, an activin-binding glycoprotein
